New Feature Alert: Record Video Clips in Microsoft Teams Channels

Say hello to an exciting new feature in Microsoft Teams! Soon, users will have the capability to record video clips directly within Teams channels, just as they can in chat. This enhancement allows you to capture yourself, your screen, or create audio-only clips, which can then be seamlessly included in a channel as either a new post or a reply.

Availability Rollout

For users worldwide, including those in the Government Cloud Community (GCC), this feature is available now, having been rolled out since early 2025. For those in the GCC High and Department of Defense (DoD) environments, the feature will start rolling out early March 2025 and should be completed by mid-March 2025.

Impact on Your Organization

Once this feature is live, you’ll notice a new Record video clip option in the compose box, located under the Actions and apps button for channel posts or replies. If you’re familiar with the chat interface, you’ll find this a welcomed addition, as a similar button already exists there.

It’s also worth noting that video recording in channels will adhere to the same Video messages policy applied to chat recordings. Therefore, if you’re an admin and have already configured this policy for chat, there’s no need for additional adjustments.

Preparing for the Change

No action is required on your part for the rollout, as it will occur automatically by the given dates. However, it might be beneficial to inform your users about this new feature and update any pertinent documentation to reflect these changes.
